3 Face Masks to Ditch The Dark Spots
Having dark spots can be a pain in the…face! They keep popping up from nowhere and no matter how much foundation you paint on or how much moisturizer you slather on, nothing seems to get rid of those scandalous spots.
This article is about to bring light to those dark spots and tell you how to eliminate them naturally without it costing a bomb to fix because it is possible.
But firstly read on to find out why these pesky splodges crop up in the first place.
5 Main Causes of Dark Spots
1. Sun exposure:
One of the number one causes of dark spots is, in fact, being in the sun, unprotected. While soaking up the sun rays can be great for a kick of vitamin D and a summer’s glow, it’s definitely doing more harm than good.
When the skin is exposed to the sun with little or no SPF, the production of melanin is ramped up to protect the skin. This, in turn, increases the amount of visible dark spots on the skin.
So if you enjoy relaxing in the sun, make sure you’re using sun cream with the appropriate SPF. The paler you are, the higher the factor you need.
A word of warning: stay away from those devilish sun beds which have no mercy on your precious skin as they dramatically accelerate the process of aging.
Over the years, your skin is exposed to sunlight and other wears and tears take their toll on your skin. So by the age of 40, the dark and age spots (brownish spots) are harder to get rid of because there are simply more of them. Also, as we age, our skin cells do not reproduce and repair themselves as easily.
If you are 40+, have fair skin and have a history of sun exposure then you are most at risk of having these kinds of hyperpigmentation. But don’t worry! We have some excellent recipes to ditch the darks spots.
3. Facial Hair Removal:
Many woman experience those irritating facial hairs that seem to never stop appearing on our faces especially as we get older. But when we wax, thread or tweeze mercilessly at those stray strands it causes the skin to become irritated and discolored.
Always use anti-inflammatory ingredients such as wonderful aloe vera to calm down irritated areas and learn to put the tweezers down when you see that the skin is getting inflamed. Perhaps, use a facial bleach instead of harshly yanking out the hairs.
Acne scars and general scarring can evolve into dark spots or cause shadowy dimples in the skin which can make the skin look uneven and discolored.
There is no way to completely eradicate acne especially in teenage years and, unfortunately, there is no way to avoid scars from general injury unless you opt for surgery. However, squeezing and picking pimples can lead to scarring so try to resist your urge to chip away at them- although it can be very tempting!
5. Hormonal imbalances:
You can also thank estrogen and progesterone spikes for your dark spots. Yes, when taking the contraceptive pill or when pregnant these hormones increase and cause the stimulation of melanin production. This shows up as a type of hyperpigmentation referred to as “melasma”.
These tan-coloured blotchy spots can pop up all over the face, jawline and elsewhere on the body.
The good news is that after pregnancy hyperpigmentation tends to fade away. However,if the pill is, in fact, handing you those unwanted spots then changing the pill could make a fabulous difference to your skin.
